Terrace Ridge Farm, offers field trips, educational courses and custom desinged courses for small and large groups.
In 2000, we (Michael and Carol Parker) decided to homeschool our children. Following the name of our longstanding family farm, we designated our Christian-based homeschool as "Terrace Ridge Academy." Michael and Carol both hold B.S. biology degrees from North Carolina State University ("NCSU") and the University of North Carolina ("UNC"), respectively, and have years of experience teaching a variety of topics. Michael holds a law degree from UNC and is a former District Attorney, a retired homicide prosecutor, a professional auctioneer, and a nationally recognized legal and auction trainer. Carol was on the NCSU Biological Sciences faculty while she completed a masters degree in public affairs and completed doctoral work in education. Matthew, our oldest son, became a North Carolina Envirothon champion, a Sandhills Community College ("SCC") Valedictorian, and the prestigious SCC Faculty Award recipient by age 18. At NCSU, Matthew graduated first in his senior class with a B.S. degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering and a minor in Soil Science. Matthew graduated as valedictorian from Campbell Law School in 2021 and now practices patent law with Michael Best & Friedrich, LLP in addition to working on the farm. Garin, age 20, is enrolled at Central Carolina Community College and is studying digital media technology. Homeschooling works, and our Academy is now ready to share our extensive expertise with you and your family!
Whether a child is homeschooled, privately educated, or attending public school, that child's academic success and interest must be nurtured by parents and family. Students thrive best when parents and family can participate together in the process. We at Terrace Ridge Academy believe in interactive hands-on learning and in sharing our extensive science and agriculture-based knowledge with families, not just children.
Terrace Ridge Farm has modified our feed barn and our "Cow Palace" to create two outdoor classrooms that can accommodate 40 students each! We also plan to open our new beef barn in 2024 that will offer a climate controlled classroom.
Upon completion of the classes, students can receive their own Terrace Ridge Academy Certificate to honor their commitment to learning and to education.
